Risks of anesthesia

6500 anesthetics are administered yearly at Astrid Lindgren Childrens Hospital to patients between 0-18 years of age for examinations and surgical procedures. Many of these are quite routine, while others require careful consideration and cooperation involving different specialists. Following many years of evolution and development of equipment, medications, routines and competency, the risks involved in anesthesia have been reduced considerably. Routine monitoring including among other things respiratory and circulatory variables and oxygen saturation, as well as routines concerning preparation for anesthesia, have contributed to this improvement. The anesthesiologist you meet can answer questions and provide more detailed information.
