Pain management for infants and young persons

Today, we know more about pain and pain alleviation than ever. Enhanced knowledge means that we are able nowadays to administer the appropriate pain relief to all our patients, whatever age they may be.

Regular pain relief is given to all children who have undergone an operation as long as the need remains. The personnel on the recovery ward and on the care ward assess, on an ongoing basis, the need for pain alleviation and offer appropriate treatment. As parent/next of kin you can help in notifying when you perceive that your child is suffering pain.

The optimum effect of pain alleviation is most often seen when it is combined with other forms of treatment such as physiotherapy, massage and play therapy.
