The Paediatric Anaesthesiology Section at the Astrid Lindgren Children’s Hospital

The Paediatric Anaesthesiology Section at the Astrid Lindgren Children’s Hospital is part of the Department of Paediatric Anaesthesia & Intensive Care. At the Paediatric Anaesthesiology section around 6,500 anaesthetics (narcoses) are administered annually prior to examinations, treatments and operations. The patients range from preterm babies to teenagers.

The Paediatric Anaesthesiology Section is responsible for all anaesthesia at the hospital as well as assessment and any investigation prior to anaesthesia. At the section, highly specialised anaesthesia is carried out for different types of surgery e.g. surgery on newborn babies, neurosurgery, plastic surgery and trauma surgery. The work at the Paediatric Anaesthesiology Section is carried out in close collaboration with the hospital’s Recovery Ward, the Intensive Care Department and the Pain Treatment Unit.

The Paediatric Anaesthesiology Section carries out continuous development work and research in close co-operation with the Karolinska Institutet.
